Once upon a time a couple named Randy and Becky Young had a desire to start a diverse church that would make the message of hope relevant and real to the people of the Heights community. The name of the church "NewSong" reflected the heart of the leadership team to God's spirit of unity, love and life "sung" throughout the Heights and the world. The dream began in the living room of a Shaker Heights family in December of 1993 with a core group of 40 committed people. Soon after, the church relocated to Canterbury Elementary where a great relationship was established with the school and neighborhood for the 9 years they met there. During this time, NewSong grew through relationships in large group gatherings on Sundays and small groups gatherings in homes throughout the area. The staff grew as well with an emphasis from the beginning on equipping the next generation. Mark Miller was the first Pastoral staff hired, with a role of equipping teenagers for life. Then in 2004, big changes came to NewSong. The Founding Pastor, Randy along with his wife Becky announced to the church that they were being called to a 2 year assignment with a ministry called Book of Hope (LINK). This organization takes the story of Jesus and puts it in an understandable form for children around the world. To date, the organization has distributed more than 350 million of these books. The Elders asked Mark Miller who was serving as the Executive Pastor to step into the role of Lead Pastor while the Young's were with the Book of Hope. At this same time in 2004, a church in Orange Village was struggling and looking for assistance. And in the Fall of 2004, NewSong became a "Multi-site" Church of One Church with Two Locations. The past year and a half have been a great season of growth, getting to know our new community and preparing our hearts for the next chapter. The next chapter is yet to be written. One thing is for sure, the story is never boring and the journey toward being a racially and intergenerationally diverse church reaching our communities with authentic love is a journey worth traveling.

Mosaic Ensemble - Mosaic Ensemble

The Mosaic Ensemble currently performs on special occasions. We are in the process of implementing proceedures to facilitate the ensemble to minister on an ongoing basis. Should you be interested in facilitating, please contact Worship Arts Director. Vocalists The vocal ministries at NewSong Church consist of both solo and ensemble quality vocalists who give their time and talents to serve God and the Church. What Are the Requirements? • Commitment to NewSong as your church home: Attending a Connect Group and Weekend Services for at least 6 months. • Vocal and Stylistic versatility. Strong musicianship and communication skills. • General ability to read music. • Contagious passion for worship. What Are the Commitments? Ability to commit time to rehearsals, performances and small groups. (Rehearsals generally occur on Thursday evenings.) First, complete and return the vocal application form. The audition process begins with a vocal assessment. These auditions serve to assess voice quality, general musicianship and communication style. At the end of the audition, participants may be invited to a callback audition. The audition process usually takes a minimum of four to six months.

Musicians At NewSong, we endeavor to strike a multi-cultural blend of music reflecting a kingdom mosaic and reflecting the sound of heaven in our worship. We also believe that high quality music played with passion and authenticity can play a valuable role in capturing the heart of seekers and believers alike. NewSong artists humbly serve God and His People with their unique talents and abilities while learning to walk together and collaborate in authentic Christian community. What Are the Opportunities? The Worship Team is comprised of volunteers, only a handful of whom are professional musicians. Other players have musical training, but have been away from it for a while. Volunteering in the Worship Team gives them a chance to play again. We believe that each person ministering on the team has an indigenous sound to their worship. We make every endeavor to tap into the unique grace of individuals to create a collaborative environment that brings the best out of each minister. Because of this, we are continually looking for volunteers who have a heart for coming together to worship the Lord in unity while fully embracing being confident in their own uniqueness. We enjoy a great deal of fellowship together. Before we rehearse on Thursday nights, we spend the first moments of rehearsal in prayer for each other. Our goal is to build a 40 piece team of musicians that experiences deep spiritual community. Rhythm Sections (piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion). The rhythm sections are assigned to a team and will play in rotation at weekend services. Studio Band (rhythm section plus contemporary horn section: Saxes, trumpets and trombones). This band usually plays on an as needed basis. What Are the Commitments? • Ability to commit time to rehearsals and performances (Rehearsals are generally Thursday evenings.) • Strong playing ability / ability to read charts / improvisational ability How Do I Get Connected? First, complete and return the musician application form. Auditions are then required for involvement. The audition process begins with an assessment. These auditions serve to assess quality, general musicianship, unique style, and improvisational skills. At the end of the audition, participants may be invited to a callback audition. The audition process usually takes a minimum of four to six months. Auditions are set up with the Worship Arts Director and are being held on a continual basis. The NEWSONG AUDIO TEAM exists to serve by SUPPORTING WORSHIP. We welcome you to join our team. We have jobs that are easy (set-up and tear down), and jobs that require expertise (running the audio board). We offer free training and allow you to explore your skills at audio engineering. Our vision is to evenly share the work of meeting ALL of Newsong's audio needs with quality and consistency. Our team has fun growing together through friendship, training, and service here in our community so that God would become more exalted our lives and in the lives of others. Here at NewSong we have a TEAM of dedicated workers that's all about kids! Our passion is to take the kids beyond just a knowledge about Jesus, to a best friend relationship that will last longer than a lifetime. We believe church should be fun for all ages! Teaching is interactive, sit and listen?, not! Our kids become a part of the story as we dig into God's Word to unlock the truths that will prove to be the foundations of their young faith. We believe our kids are the church of today. For this reason our goal is to develop hearts of compassion and love in our kids that will reach beyond the walls of the church, to share the story of Jesus, that has become a reality in their young lives! If you have questions, email Scott Young. Kid's Connect Clubs Newsong's Small Groups for kids! Our clubs meet every Wednesday night at Lutheran East High School from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Club nights are full of fun, games, contest, crafts, and much more! The small group teaching times is on grade level and divided by gender. This is our time to really get to know the kids, so we can meet them at their point of need. The kid's also do Reach Out Events! The kids take their gifts outside the wall of the church to bring joy to another's life! Through song, clown skits, dance, and individual instruments, we visit nursing homes and other facilities to share the joy we have in Jesus! Our Club events consist of Winter Overnighters, Pinewood Derby race, Thanksgiving Food Drive for the City Mission, and more! KidSong KidSong is our Sunday Morning Kid's service for grades 1-4. KidSong meets at our Orange Village Campus at 9:00am and 11:00am at our Lutheran East Campus. We believe church should be FUN, for this reason we make our kid's learning experience interactive, and creative! We are all about the kid's foundation, therefore we use skits, object lessons, multimedia, and more to communicate, and bring application to foundational bible stories and principals! At the present time we are into a "God Chasers" series with the objective of taking our kids from a knowledge about God, to a best friend relationship with God! The last Sunday of the month is our "Go 360" Missions Service! We bring in a local or worldwide missionary to share what God has called them to do. We want to build a heart of love and compassion into the hearts of our kids, so they will be "Doers" of God's Word! Rainbows Rainbows is the name given to Newsong's ministry to our preschool kids ages 3-5. Rainbows meet on Wednesday nights along with our Kid's Clubs at our Lutheran East Campus from 7:00pm-8:30pm, and on Sundays during our service times at both NewSong campuses. We are not a babysitting service! We have a great team of workers that teach through interactive play, story time, songs, crafts, memory verses, and more. Statistics show that a child learns half of what they are going to learn in a lifetime by age 6. Therefore we strive to pour into young lives that are so eager to learn new things with excitement! Rainbows have a separate curriculum for Sunday and Wednesday nights. The information is not a repeat, the only thing the two classes share is the title. Rainbow's is a cooperative ministry we ask that you as a parent serve once a month in the care of our preschoolers. LittleSong LittleSong is our ministry to children birth through age 2. LittleSong is available for childcare during our Sunday morning services and Wednesday nights Clubs. Our LittleSong Staff is committed to the care and well being of children! We are equipped with changing facilities, swings, walkers, and age appropriate toys. The goal of our staff is to provide the most loving, caring, healthy, and organizes atmosphere possible; so you as parents can enjoy NewSong teaching and fellowship during our service times. LittleSong is a cooperative ministry, we ask that you as a parent serve once a month in the care of our babies.

NewSong is a church that believes that the Bible is God's word given to this world to be used as our standard for faith and life. From it we believe the invisible God was made visible through His son Jesus Christ. Jesus came to rescue us from our foolish ways and from evil, ultimately providing a direct and personal relationship with God. And we believe that when Jesus left earth, He didn't leave us alone. God sent His Spirit to be our guide, to empower us, and to experience His grace and power inside each one of us. This power can transform our lives both inside and out. And we believe that one day Jesus will fulfill His promise that He will again return to this planet He once visited.

The following is the summer schedule for the Stewardship Connect Group. We will meet for Connect Group on the following dates at 7:30pm at the Sirianni's: Mon. June 5 Mon. June 19 Tues. July 11 Mon. July 24 Mon. Aug. 7 Over these next 5 sessions we will be covering the final two chapters in the Discipleship Journey book. We are also planning on a few special events, but those are still in the planning stages.

Drama Team - Drama Team

The Drama Team is currently under development. Should you be interested in participating or lending a hand in this area, please check the list below to see what areas we are in need of and then email Todd Berger, the worship arts director. Director: responsible for giving direction and input in everything, including designs such as lighting, props, set, sound, etc. Stage Manager: has the difficult job of running rehearsal, making sure things are organized, and all is running smoothly. Set Designer: responsible for designing and implementing everything on the set: stage furniture, backdrops, etc. Prop Master: researches exactly what props are needed and finds a way to obtain them for the drama, whether it be making them, buying them, or borrowing. Lighting Designer: Designs how the lights are used to enhance the set and mood of the drama. Costume Designer: Designs and fabricates/obtains the clothing worm by actors. Stage Hands: individuals who are used to help run the technical parts of the finished production. They will do things like mover the set around to facilitate scene changes, etc.

About NewSong - Who We Are

Some have called NewSong a divine experiment. Is it possible for a church to have a racially and intergenerationally diverse church? How about in a city like Cleveland that is an eclectic mix of many races and ages, yet many living in segregated communities and separate lives? Beginning in 1993, NewSong Church has set out to see if this was possible. Believing that the Church is the very place where unity and diversity should come together, NewSong has joined a movement of churches across America who are experiencing the joy of "Multi". With over 20 nationalities attending weekly, a great mix of ages and 2 campuses reflecting their own unique style, NewSong has become a people mosaic that reflects the diverse community of the eastern side of Cleveland. When NewSong gets together for its weekly large or small gatherings, this mosaic takes shape as people of different colors, backgrounds and various walks of life come together to experience community. How does it work? Intentionality. There are no bumper stickers that say "Unity Happens". We have to work at it. And we think it is also because of an often repeated phrase around here, "We don't take ourselves too seriously but we do take God seriously." So we laugh at ourselves and have a good time in relationships wrapped around the people and purposes of God. If you want to experiment with us, come and join the journey.

Where we're headed… This year we are going to focus on four main things: The Gathering on Wednesday nights, The Deep on Sunday nights, special events, and service. We feel that by doing these four things well, we will see God moving in our midst and enabling us to impact our world. The Gathering We will be meeting every Wednesday night to worship God, to build our faith, to embrace each other and our communities and to enjoy being together. The Deep For those who are hungry and thirsty to know God more, we will be meeting every Sunday night to explore the discipleship journey, to ask questions, to study the bible, to pray and to seek God. Deep calls to deep and what this world needs is deep people. Special Events Throughout the year we will have special events, like the Fall Retreat, the Youth Convention, the New Testament Retreat, The World Missions Summit, The Fine Arts Festival, the Jr. High retreat, the Leadership retreat, and a summer missions project all for the purpose of Impact. We want to see God impacting the lives of our students and using us to impact the world we live in. Service After returning from St. Louis, we feel the need to bring St. Louis to Cleveland. As a group we need to allow our actions to proclaim the gospel. Therefore, we want to serve our house, NewSong Church, the people of our house, our communities and the world. We will be involving ourselves in service projects throughout the year so that the kingdom of God might be build up through a community of love.

The Gathering Wednesday nights are the primary night when our teenagers gather. Here teenagers get together to talk about the real issues affecting their lives and learn more about God's love through worship, storytelling, games and each other. All of the fun starts at 7:00. Other times during the month you might find our teens showing people God's love through ministries with an aim to serve others. And through retreats, game nights and other special events, the Reality teens like to do what comes naturally- have fun in a safe environment with friends who care. If you are a teen who wants a dose of reality in your life, come check us out.
